A Modern Exhibition

The Clò-Mòr Exhibition is not simply a showcase; it brings the story of Harris Tweed into the present day with energy and style. Tucked away along the Golden Road, the exhibition is housed in its own building beside the Drinishader shop, a modern and interactive experience designed to engage visitors of all ages. Its name, Clò Mòr “the Big Cloth” hints at the scale of its impact – a modest material from a remote island, elevated into a global emblem of craftsmanship and taste. This shows how this unique fabric has shaped and continues to shape design culture worldwide.

Displays And Designs

Inside, the journey is presented as a seamless narrative, blending storytelling with exclusivity. Self-guided displays allow visitors to move at their own pace, while interactive features add depth and immersion. Video screens capture the steady rhythm of island looms, giving glimpses into the lives of the skilled artisans whose dedication upholds this heritage. Surrounding these multimedia experiences are mannequins: dressed in cutting-edge Harris Tweed couture pieces that bring the famous cloth into the world of international luxury fashion.

Fashion and Heritage

What sets the Clò Mòr Exhibition apart is its ability to elevate tradition into an aspirational experience. Here, rustic origins are not diminished but celebrated, reframed within a context of refinement. The space is thoughtfully lit, with each object displayed to invite admiration while maintaining its authenticity. Visitors are invited to make connections between the island’s past and the global design world of today. Families enjoy the hands-on activities, from using the carding brushes to simulate the process, to having a seat in one of the upholstered whiskey barrel chairs; a combination of two Scottish heritages.

Historical Collections

Complementing the main exhibition is the museum room inside the shop, offering a more historical insight into the old process. Showcasing old photographs, video footage, garments, artefacts and original weaving tools that belonged to Marion Campbell, including her original wooden loom. The combination of vintage attire and heartfelt local collections make the Drinishader experience unique – it is both luxurious and sincere. This exhibition offers more than history; it offers heritage elevated into art. We invite you to visit in person for a truly refined immersion or continue the journey by exploring our carefully curated Harris Tweed collections online.
